Tonight - GODSMACK in St. Paul, GREEN JELLY in Mankato, First Day of Rockfest and Moonjam Jam

Today kicks off an early start to a big concert weekend! First, Godsmack has scheduled a headlining show between some festival dates tonight at Myth in St. Paul with support from Saint Caine. Tickets are still available for $42 at the door - doors are at 6:30 and it's an all ages show.

Comic metal band Green Jellÿ tonight makes the first of two area appearances at the What's Up Lounge in Mankato. This is a 21+ show that starts around 10:00, and it's $10 at the door.

The annual four-day Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin starts at 3:30 today with a lineup of Three Days Grace, Seether, Halestorm, All That Remains, and Aranda. Tickets and camping passes are still available at the gate, with prices varying according to the number of days and type of ticket.

Further North in Walker, Minnesota, the Moondance Jam main stage starts today at 3:00 with Mötley Crüe, Cheap Trick, Buckcherry, Shooting Star, and the mighty Cain. As with Rock Fest, all tickets and camping passes are available at the gate.

Moondance Jam Kicks Off Tonight

Now in its 22nd year, Moondance Jam in Walker, Minnesota kicks off this year's festivities tonight, Wednesday, July 17 with the "Pre Jam Party" featuring cover band Hairball, The Fabulous Armadillos, and Transit Authority. Moondance Jam has always focused on classic rock bands, and I've always appreciated how they always seem to book some fantastic, lesser-known bands from the 70s, and all bands get long sets (there's two hours scheduled between every band). This year is no exception with the inclusion of Minneapolis' cult legends Cain, Shooting Star, and Sweet. I'd love see to most of the bands playing, but this style of festival show has several things that I hate: (1) it's an outdoor show, (2) the location is far from civilization, and (3) I don't want to camp or stay in a crappy motel. In addition to the main stage bands listed below, there are four side stages that feature additional acts. If you're a classic rock fan and you have three or four days to commit, Moondance Jam is well worth your time.

As announced last night, Limp Bizkit plays at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis on Tuesday, May 14. Tickets go on sale today, Friday, April 5 at 10:00 am.

Local shock/gore kings Impaler have a show with Eldergaad and God Came From Space on Saturday, June 1 at Cause Spirits & Sound in Minneapolis.

Sublime With Rome comes to Myth in St. Paul with Iration on Saturday, June 29.

The husband and wife team of Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo play the Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater in Apple Valley on Sunday, June 30. Reserved seat tickets go on sale Saturday, April 27 at 10:00 am.

Cheap Trick plays the Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater in Apple Valley on Saturday, July 6. Reserved seat tickets go on sale Saturday, April 27 at 10:00 am.

Progressive rock icons Yes play the Mystic Lake Showroom in Prior Lake on Friday, August 9. Tickets go on sale Saturday, June 1, and presale tickets for members of the Mystic Email Club go on sale Friday, May 31.

In Concert This Week - June 14

Locals Throw The Fight continue to barnstorm the area clubs to celebrate the release of their new album with a show tonight, June 14 at the North Star Room in Mounds View.


More local insanity ensues at G.B Leighton's Pickle Park in Fridley on Friday, June 15 with American Head Charge, Devilsex, Gabriel And The Apocalypse, Nuisance, and Rapedoor.


The always controversial Ted Nugent performs with his original solo band vocalist Derek St. Holmes (the voice on "Stranglehold") on Friday, June 15 with support from Laura Wild at the Medina Entertainment Center in Medina.

A reinvigorated Aerosmith, riding high on the strength of new single "Legendary Child", brings Cheap Trick along for a show in Minneapolis at the Target Center on Saturday, June 16.


Instrumental rockers Scale The Summit also perform Saturday June 16, at Station 4 in St. Paul with support from Today I Caught The Plague, Windowvine, and Words For Penga.

Lastly, the reunited Spineshank brings their show to Station 4 in St. Paul on Wednesday, June 20. Rounding out the bill is The Agonist, 9 Electric, Blue Felix, Mureau, Harsh Reality, and Atlantis Theorem.

Def Leppard Concert Canceled

There's more unfortunate cancellation news. Def Leppard announced on its website today that their entire upcoming North American tour has been cancelled "due to unforeseen personal matters". The band was scheduled to play at the XCel Energy Center in St. Paul on November 6 with special guests Cheap Trick and Man Raze.
