AFTER THE BURIAL Hits #1 on iTunes Metal Chart

Twin Cities metalcore band After The Burial released their third album, Wolves Within, through Sumerian Records this week, and it promptly soared to the #1 position on the iTunes Metal Album Chart. Wolves Within also currently sits at #7 on the Rock Album Chart and #106 on the Album Chart (all genres).

After The Burial joins the Twin Cities' Reflections in the feat of hitting #1 on the iTunes Metal Album Chart in 2013. I think the question can legitimately be asked: Is the Twin Cities the metalcore capital of the planet?

Watch the lyric video for "A Wolf Amongst Ravens" from Wolves Within.

The Cities are also home of other widely recognized metalcore/grindcore bands like The Crinn, Ambassador Gun, and Blue Ox as well as a burgeoning crop of young talent featuring the likes of Don't Worry I'm A Doctor, The Broken Are Crowned, and From Concept To Chronicle. Is there another city that can match of the quantity and quality of metalcore output? I'm not sure, and perhaps it is time that the Twin Cities is recognized for music other than Prince and the "Minneapolis sound" developed by the likes of The Replacements, Soul Asylum, and Hüsker Dü.

After The Burial plays two album release shows at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis this weekend. Tonight's show (Saturday, December 21) with Your Memorial and I Am Vengeance is SOLD OUT. A second show with Your Memorial and Thira has been added on Sunday, December 22.

In Concert This Week

UPDATE: Reflections will not be playing with After The Burial on Sunday, December 22. The promoter has removed them from the lineup listed on his website.

This is naturally a slow time of year for live music, but there's still some (primarily local) shows to be had this week.

Poison frontman Bret Michaels plays a rescheduled show tonight, Friday, December 20 at Myth in St. Paul. The opening band has not been announced, but this all ages show starts at 7:00 and tickets are $25.

Tonight you can also catch a big local show at the Cabooze in Minneapolis with Blue Felix, Nuisance, Emergent, Pinwheel, Scream At The Sun, and A Sound Theory. This is an 18+ show, and it's only $5 at the door.

Tomorrow's After The Burial at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis with Your Memorial and I Am Vengeance is SOLD OUT, but a second show with support from Your Memorial, Reflections, and Thira has been added on Sunday, December 22. Both shows are early, all ages shows. These shows are the official album release events for Wolves Within, the new album from After The Burial that came out this week through Sumerian Records. You can buy tickets ($15) for the Sunday show through Ticketfly.

Lastly, Grant Hart, former drummer of hardcore punk legends Hüsker Dü, plays a solo show at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis on Thursday, December 26 with Catbath and Frankie Teardrop. This is an 18+ show that starts around 8:00; tickets are $10 in advance through Ticketfly.

Tonight - TRIVIUM and DEVILDRIVER in Minneapolis, Great Local Shows

The big show happening tonight is a co-headliner with Trivium and Devildriver at First Avenue in Minneapolis with support from local Sumerian Records recording artist After The Burial and England's Sylosis. This one starts early, 5:25, and it's all ages and will cost $24 at the door.

There's also some great locals shows in the area tonight. First, you can catch Witchden, Outside The Murder, Blue Ox, and Trail Boss at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis. Show time is around 9:00, and it's an 18+ show that's only $6 at the door.

At the Cause Spirits & Soundbar in Minneapolis tonight you can catch Blackthorne, Low Forms, and Disasteratti for just $5. This is a 21+ show that starts at 9:00.

Lastly, it's a night of death metal in Mankato at the What's Up Lounge with Invidiosus, California's Splattered, Prophets Of Aether, and Fetus Heist. It's an 18+ show at start at 10:00, and it's $8 at the door.

As previously announced, the Bret Michaels show scheduled for tonight at Myth in St. Paul has been moved to Friday, December 20.

In Concert This Week - October 12, 2012

The (unintended) time away flies quick, and I’ve gradually been bringing the concert calendar (right) fully up to date. After previewing all of the shows coming up this week, I’ll highlight other new concerts in three separate posts for the remainder of October, November, and December and beyond. There’s a ton of great bands coming to the area so brace yourself. As usual, I’ve got a backlog of album reviews, concert reviews, pictures, audio downloads, and fun tales that I’ll get posted as time allows. Your patience and continued support is appreciated!

Built-for-radio hard rock band Three Days Grace plays a sold out show at the Fine Line Music Cafe in Minneapolis tonight, Friday, October 12.

Tomorrow, Saturday, October 13 thrash gods Exodus play the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis with local support from Impaler, Black Rainbow, and Mördwolf. The bad news is that this is part of the annual Zombie Pub Crawl. Go visit their website for full details, but purchase of a wristband ($23 advance/$40 day of) does not guarantee admission to the venue. This venue is too small for Exodus for this type of event, so if you really must endure an annoying zombie crowd you better get to the Triple Rock early when doors open at 5. You decide whether it’s worth the hassle.

Twin Cities metalcore giants After The Burial bring the heat to Station 4 in St. Paul for an all ages show this Sunday, October 14 with The Contortionist, Reflections, I Am Vengeance, and CounterMeasure.

Hard rock favorites Seether bring along Sick Puppies, Kyng, and Eye Empire for a show on Tuesday, October 16 at Mill City Nights.

Expect the unexpected when Iwrestledabearonce, Oceano, Vanna, Within The Ruins, The Plot In You, Surrounded By Monsters, and The Disaster Radiu invade Station 4 in St. Paul on Wednesday, October 17.

Rap-metal survivors (hed)pe return to town on Thursday, October 18 at Station 4 in St. Paul with Sore and Dopesic for an all ages show.

Across town at The Cabooze in Minneapolis on Thursday, October 18 alternative-punk godfathers Dinosaur Jr. play with support from Shearwater.

Look for a slew of new concert information coming soon in three more posts.
