Down in Rochester, DoryDrive plays a free 21+ show at the Wicked Moose with Venus On Fire and Angry Room; doors are at 8:00.

Friday also kicks off the Girls Got Rhythm Festival at the Amsterdam Bar in St. Paul with cult punk band The Avengers, Gateway District, The Pinsch, and Total Trash. The second night on Saturday, May 11 features former singer of The Runaways Cherie Currie, Sugar Stems, Marilu And The The Machetes, and Is/Is. These are 21+ shows, and tickets are $20 each night at the door or $35 for a two-day pass.
You can read an interview with Cherie Currie and Girls Got Rhythm organizers Dana Raidt and Travis Ramin over at City Pages.

There's four other shows of interest on Saturday, May 11. Fans of progressive metal should turn out for the first U.S. tours of Sweden's Pain Of Salvation, Italy's Kingcrow, Detroit's Imminent Sonic Destruction, Omaha's Violent Fade, and locals Redshift. Over at Mill City Nights in Minneapolis you can catch hard rock band Escape The Fate with support from England’s Glamour Of The Kill. Note that metalcore band The Color Morale is no longer on the Escape The Fate bill. The Hi 5 Bar in Burnsville has alternative rock band DoryDrive. Lastly, it’s a big night of local metal at Neisen’s in Savage with Blue Felix, Throw The Fight, Gabriel And The Apocalypse, and A Sound Theory.

Speaking of Escape The Fate, their former frontman’s new band Falling In Reverse also plays Mill City Nights in Minneapolis on Sunday, May 12 with support from American Fangs. You can save some money by purchasing the “Escape The Fate 2 Show Pack” that gets you into both the Escape The Fate and Falling In Reverse shows for only $25. Just across the street at Epic the same night metalcore band Asking Alexandria tops a large bill with Motionless In White, Whitechapel, Chimaira, and I Killed The Prom Queen.

On Monday, May 13 rock radio darlings Sick Puppies perform at Mill City Nights in Minneapolis with local support from Pinwheel.

From The Vault - CLUTCH

Off the wall heavy rockers Clutch are out now promoting their new album Earth Rocker so I dug through my archives to present the findings from early Clutch shows up through The Elephant Riders. My first live exposure to the band was when they were out supporting their debut album, Transnational Speedway League, on a crushing bill that had them sandwiched between Sepultura and Fear Factory on March 29, 1993 at Big Dog's in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sepultura was riding high on the Chaos A.D. album, while Fear Factory was promoting Soul Of A New Machine. From my recollection, Clutch ripped through most the debut album, including "Earthworm", "A Shogun Named Marcus", "Rats", and "El Jefe Speaks".

The only time I remember seeing Clutch on the road for their second, self-titled album was in 1995 at The Hurricane in Kansas City on a co-headling jaunt with Tad with Far opening the show. Clutch and Tad was a great pairing, and both bands put on intense performances.

Two promotional pictures of Clutch from 1998 for The Elephant Riders album.

Clutch hit the road heavily for their third album, The Elephant Riders, during which time they played Lawrence, Kansas and Kansas City a number of times. March 11, 1998 had them playing The Beaumont Club in Kansas City on an unlikely tour opening for Limp Bizkit with Sevendust. The crowd was respectful but seemed largely indifferent. That same year, they did a phenomenal headlining show at The Bottleneck in Lawrence as part of a short tour with support from Shine (who later changed their name to Spirit Caravan).

The pictures below were all taken at the Granada Theater in Lawrence, Kansas on October 28, 1998 as direct support to Sevendust together with Stuck Mojo and Ultraspank. Again, Clutch seemed out of place on this tour, but they still rolled through a great set as only they can do.

Clutch performs tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10 at First Avenue in Minneapolis with support from Orange Goblin, Lionize, and Scorpion Child.

From The Vault - SEVENDUST

I saw Sevendust a number times from 1997–2000 out on the road promoting their first two albums, Sevendust and Home. Here's a number of pictures and promotional items from that time.

A 1997 promotional picture signed by the band.

The first time seeing Sevendust was on July 19, 1997 at The Bottleneck in Lawrence, Kansas soon after the release of their debut album. I've already posted the audio of this show for download here, where you can read more details about this show. They were on the road supporting Coal Chamber, but Coal Chamber cancelled to attend an MTV Awards show. Refunds for the show were offered, but Sevendust went ahead with their own headline show anyway for about 30–50 people.

Click on the picture to download the complete audio recording of this Sevendust concert from 1997.

Another promotional picture from 1997.

Sevendust came back to the Kansas City area for a show with Coal Chamber (Dayinthelife... had cancelled, I believe) on February 12, 1998. I honestly don't remember much about this show other than it being a completely packed house.

The next time seeing them was on March 11, 1998 at The Beaumont Club in Kansas City supporting Limp Bizkit and Clutch for a sold-out show. By this time Sevendust was taking off, and touring continued with a run with Clutch, Stuck Mojo, and Ultraspank that brought them back to Lawrence on October 28, 1998 at the Granada Theater.

My final time seeing Sevendust during this time was June 18, 2000 at Cox Arena in San Diego where they were direct support to Creed with Nickelback opening (I previously posted Nickelback pictures from this concert here).

Sevendust will be performing Monday, April 8 at Mill City Nights in Minneapolis with support from Coal Chamber, Lacuna Coil, and Candlelight Red.

Limp Bizkit From The Vault

Wow, the level of interest in the Limp Bizkit video is beyond what I would have ever expected! I thought I'd follow this up with some Limp Bizkit memorabilia from 1997 and 1998. First is a pass that I was given at the July 14, 1997 Kansas City CD signing.
Next up is a flyer and ticket stub for a Deftones show that Limp Bizkit supported later that year at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, Kansas (December 12, 1997). I think Will Haven actually canceled their performance that night. This is pretty cool because not many promoters commission artists to draw unique, original flyers for concerts anymore.

Last is a photo pass from the first Family Values Tour Limp Bizkit did with Korn, Rammstein, Ice Cube, and Orgy. This show took place at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri on October 22, 1998. Unfortunately none of my Limp Bizkit photos from that night turned out very well, so I won't post any of them.
Limp Bizkit announced yesterday that they have canceled all of their U.S. headlining shows scheduled for this summer. This does not affect festival dates, including their stop at Rock Fest. Their appearance at Rock Fest is one of only three U.S. shows that will take place until the fall and winter.
Limp Bizkit will be playing at Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin on Sunday, July 18 with Alice In Chains, Drowning Pool, Trapt, Sleeper Cell, and Black Valentyne.
UPDATE: I forgot that I also saw Limp Bizkit on their very first tour before Three Dollar Bill, Y'all$ was released in 1996. This show was with Korn, The Urge, and Delinquent Habit on October 16, 1996 at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, Kansas. Limp Bizkit got a great crowd response and I remember Fred Durst throwing demo or sampler tapes into the crowd.
UPDATE X 2: Below is a signed promo picture and interior of the Three Dollar Bill, Yall$ CD booklet. These were both signed at the 7th Heaven Records event in Kansas City on July 14, 1997.

Limp Bizkit - July 14, 1997, Kansas City, MO

Limp Bizkit - 1997-07-14, Kansas City, MO, 7th Heaven
Video and Audio, 27 minutes
It seems difficult to remember that there once was a time when Limp Bizkit was not openly scorned and ridiculed like no band since Winger (despite their huge album sales). To give them credit, their debut album Three Dollar Bill, Yall$ was quite innovative at the time when rap-rock or nu-metal was emerging. This Ross Robinson-produced effort was much more raw then later albums, with a gritty, rough guitar sound. What I have for you here is the earliest full-length live recording of Limp Bizkit known to exist! The quality of both the audio and video of this recording is a solid A. This was a free in-store performance in the parking lot of 7th Heaven Records in Kansas City on an off date on the early part of their first tour as part of the 1997 Warped Tour. The show was preceded by an album signing session inside the store. Limp Bizkit was very cordial and friendly with everyone and spent a lot of time talking to their fans. Aimee Echo from Human Waste Project (and later TheSTART) was dating guitarist Wes Borland at the time and she also hung out during the signing. This event took place less than two weeks after the release of Three Dollar Bill, Yall$, and captures the band during a time when they were just trying to make it like any other baby band. I remember seeing Fred Durst walking around the tents at the Warped Tour show the next day in Lawrence, Kansas and nobody knew who he was or would give him the time of day! It's pretty funny to hear Durst announcing to the crowd while introducing "Counterfeit" that "we're at the Days Inn in Lawrence, Kansas, know what I'm sayin'?" He also tackles bassist Sam Rivers while playing during the end of "Faith" and drop-kicks the drum kit. Their first full-length album with guitarist Wes Borland in ten years, Gold Cobra, should be released this summer while playing a number of festival dates. The link for downloading the audio and video of the complete show is below.

UPDATE: I'm pleased to see the huge positive response this post has quickly generated online, and there's already a discussion thread about this show on the limpbizkit.org website. Thanks! Go check it out: http://www.limpbizkit.org/index.php?showtopic=31444. I thought I'd address some of the initial comments I've seen. This is the oldest full-length Limp Bizkit show I've seen online after some pretty exhaustive searches. If anyone knows of any older footage please let me know! I've only embedded two of the videos here, but go to my YouTube channel and you can view videos for all five songs if you don't want to download them. I was 25 years old when I shot this. I also have some old Limp Bizkit memorabilia (passes, concert flyers, signed CD, ticket stubs) from around this time that I'll try to post soon. Keep checking back!
UPDATE X 2: I've now posted some Limp Bizkit memorabilia (passes, concert flyer, ticket stub) from 1997 and 1998. Check in out here. Thanks to Marcelo, webmaster for The Armpit, the largest Limp Bizkit fan site community for his comment alerting me that he posted links and the video on the main news site of The Armpit. Some comments in their forum speculates that the band or record label is responsible for posting this footage. That is not true, and I am not (and never was) associated with the band or label in any capacity. I taped this show myself on a VHS-C camcorder, and digitized it directly from the master tape. The reason this footage has never been circulated is that I never was one to participate in the tape-trading world. I've moved too many times to count over the last ten years, and this tape sat in a box with my VCR and a large pile of shows I recorded around 1997–1999. I've only now had the luxury of time to start digitizing them. I decided to post it now because Limp Bizkit has a show coming up in the area in July.
